The Washington Capitals lost an away game versus the (still) undefeated Minnesota Wild tonight. At least they kept taking unnecessary penalties throughout the third period, survived overtime, and took it to a shootout.
Most emotional part of the game for your humble author?
What an amazing save by Brent Johnson on Gaborik with less than 3 minutes remaining in the third period! Great defense on the subsequent penalty kill, too. Did I just use the words great defense in reference to the Caps? Hells yes I did.
I can’t believe it either!
Any self-respecting, pedestrian hockey fan would chalk the Wild win up to Manny Fernandez’ three saves in the shootout to win the game.
Any self-loathing Caps fan would say the Wild’s winning is due to Richard Zednik’s taking the third shootout penalty shot. I’ve made this abundantly clear: Zednik is a waste of a salary. He does nothing on the ice, neither offensively nor defensively. Who the fuck thought that Zednik would be a valuable addition to the shootout squad?
Glen Hanlon… you are officially “on notice”! What a dickhead.
Did I mention that Johnson had a great game? Thirty-six saves on the night… ten more than Minnesota shot all game. He deserved a win from the boys tonight; Ovechkin, Semin, and that waste of flesh—Richard Zednik—let him down.
