Capitals ship Jeff Friesen to Anaheim for a 2nd-round draft pick. No big loss there.
Brenda Twitt goes to Nashville in exchange for a 2006 first-round pick and forward Kris Beech from the Preds’ AHL farm team, the Milwaukee Admirals (not to be confused with the Norfolk Admirals… wtf?). Beech was drafted in the 1st round of the ‘99 draft by none other than the Washington Capitals. In Milwaukee, he has 18 goals & 32 assists for 50 points (43rd in the league) in 48 games. Also, 48 penalty minutes. Incidentally, those stats would make him the 2nd highest scorer on the Caps, save Alex Ovechkin. I think he’ll land in Hershey.
Caps need defense… and not the kind that you can get off the waiver wire, either. More on my love/hate relationship with Brenda Twitt later.
No moves by the Lightning.
Afterthought: The Caps also claimed Rico Fata off waivers from the Atlanta Thrashers today. This is the third time in his career that Fata has been waived & subsequently claimed. Calgary waived, Rangers picked him up & then traded him to Pittsburgh who later waived & he ended up in Atlanta. He has one point—an assist—this year between playing in Pittsburgh & Atlanta. No wonder he wallows on the waiver wire.
Still no help on defense.
