In my mind, it started with the Janet Jackson boob comment The Foof posted. I tried (and failed miserably) to address the latest “morality”-based FCC crackdown and just got myself confused by making a point that’s just been festering in the oft-forgotten, not-actively-monitored corner of my mind: the one about today’s teens’ purported return to morality by way of simple virginity… which is clearly a farce.
No, I’m not crazy. I don’t actually doubt my own sanity. This is my effort to flesh it all out.
About Morality: As the story I linked to w/ the Carlin quote stated… it’s almost a pendulum. Almost simple harmonic motion. The only thing that keeps it from being an equal amount of progression followed by regression followed by progression… etc. is that old people die. Their old ideas, values and definitions of morality also die with them.
About Religion: You cannot argue with faith. By definition, faith is blind; faith requires no proof. It just is. The problem is that, more times than not, the absolute value that faith embodies is never questioned by the faithful.
It’s not, “if you disagree, then explain to me why you think I’m wrong or misguided.” It’s, “if you disagree, then you’re wrong or misguided.” It’s not, “your choice is your choice, your belief is your belief.” It’s, “either you’re holy like me, or you’re not holy… a heathen… unholy… or evil.” There is no room for discourse among the faithful. Because questioning the impetus behind your faith, by definition, undermines your faith, and makes you unfaithful.
It’s easier to believe than it is to question… to confront the unknown. What if [your deity] doesn’t actually exist? Fuck that! YOU OTHER PEOPLE WITH [a different deity] ARE WRONG! Here, lemme’ show ya’ why.
Hence, all the dying.
About Freedom: Specifically, “American Freedom”… and how Morality and Religion tie into “American Freedom”.
First, we cannot blame the backswing of that almost-equally-harmonic Moral pendulum on Religion. To do so would be to disregard the undercurrent of fear that pervades American Society these days. Anything and everything that threatens our sunshine and butterflies concept of daily life in the good ol’ US of A is subject to attack. We just choose to pick easy targets like Stern and Maher (if we’re Moral Republicans), or Limbaugh and Hannity (if we’re Moral Democrats). The Morality will take care of itself through death.
Ethics are different than Morals. We would all do ourselves a solid by remembering that.
Now, Religion. My own opinion or belief or thoughts on Religion don’t matter here. But, those Americans who think that Religion (or Christianity) actually plays a role in affecting our “American Freedom” are missing the point. I have no doubt in my mind that (w) thinks that he is doing the work of [his deity]. But (w) is ultimately insignificant where Freedom is involved.
Finally, Freedom. Everyone has heard of “The Illuminati”… that mythical group of influential people who run the World, right? The Illuminati make all the decisions, right? We’re never the wiser, but have to deal with those decisions, right?
Wrong. The Illuminati doesn’t exist… it’s just a conspiracy theory brewed up by disenchanted people who hate the Government, and will always hate the Government. Fucking perpetual victims, these crackpots.
Except for that America’s current Administration buys into the Illuminati conspiracy theory.
They think that they’re the Illuminati, and actively try to fill the role. Not (w)… poor bastard… but the Administration. To clarify: George W. Bush is not part of the Administration. He’s just unfortunate enough to not know that other people are pulling his strings. The Administration thinks they know what’s best for the World, and if anyone disagrees… fuck ’em… they just don’t know. The Administration is on a crusade of power; they pursue something they think is a self-fulfilling prophecy, but without Morality or Religion.
It’s only Power. And “American Freedom” is the vicitm of their Illuminati pursuit. It’s almost Orwellian.
If we keep the stupid people scared all the time, then they won’t even notice that we’re boxing them in, and we’ll always be in Power. Even better: if we can make them think it has something to do with Morality by way of Religion, that’ll only smokescreen our sleight-of-hand more effectively.
After that, lying about myriad things isn’t that big a leap… as long as we have a patsy, (w). To steal from a Salon columnist (can’t find the article for a link), America’s Administration-cum-Illuminati are lock-jawed to an ideology, but not to the well-being of our country. That’s fucking sad.
To round this out… lest anyone doubt my Religion… both of my parents served proudly in the armed services, and their service to America’s military, government and safety cannot be overlooked.
I am an American Patriot. I challenge anyone on the face of this Earth to confront me otherwise.
It makes me sick to see what our Administration is doing.
For shame, sirs… for shame.
